Retro Ranch Kitchen in Wayland

New owners of a ranch home in Wayland requested a kitchen open to adjacent dining and living spaces and with better views and access to the yard. The existing galley-style kitchen was dark and outdated. A wall divided the spaces with a doorway in the center of the existing kitchen thereby creating an awkward circulation pattern. The only natural light in the space was from two sliding glass doors on the wall along the dining room area.

By removing the wall between the kitchen and dining/living area, and reconfiguring the foyer hall closet, we were able to create space for a new dining room table and chairs. New windows and doors to the exterior provide more sunlight, while recessed flangeless LED fixtures bring light into the kitchen, dining and living spaces.

While retaining the galley shape, a peninsula between the kitchen and dining table has a bar-block of Caesarstone which hides the sink from view on the dining/living side. A beverage refrigerator at the end of the peninsular provides easy access.

Custom cabinetry includes lower cabinets in rift-cut white oak and upper cabinets painted in a warm, neutral tone plus tall cabinets for the pantry with the microwave housed there. Countertops in Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo and a backsplash in Fireclay Tile Small Diamond mosaic in Tusk keep the kitchen feeling calm and unified. Neew appliances by Thermador include a full-size, built-in refrigerator, gas range, and dishwasher.

Finally, a custom sideboard we designed hangs on the dining room wall, with an open shelf with orange laminate that echoes the inside of the bar block by the sink.
