For the Love of Linen

Textures. Patterns. Colors. Shapes. These are some of the essential components that go into creating an interesting living space.  What brings all of those elements together? Fabric. The fabric I love working with is linen. This natural fiber has great texture. It’s not sheer, but it allows light to filter through. Linen holds color in a way that other fabrics do not. I love the way linen looks and feels – in drapery, clothing, and bedding.

True as Steel: Stainless Elements Contrast with Traditional

Diane Burcz Interiors | Newton Kitchen Stainless Steel & Cherry Project

New state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances from SubZero and Wolf became the springboard for introducing contemporary elements to an existing traditional West Newton kitchen. When my client’s refrigerator and dishwasher needed replacing, she seized the opportunity to make some transformative changes to her kitchen – adding a 48″ SubZero Pro refrigerator freezer with a glass insert in the door, a Wolf range, steam oven and warming drawer – all with stainless steel fronts to add some fresh, contemporary elements. Cabinetry Essentials

Newton Kitchen with Brubaker Cabinetry-designed-by-Diane-Burcz

Cabinetry is essential in our kitchens and baths. Even the most minimalist among us needs a place to store their stuff: utensils, tableware, pantry items, toiletries, knickknacks and doodads. Since the beginning of homebuilding in America, there have been built-in bookcases, closets and, yes, cabinets. Cabinetry has evolved into its own specialized category.

We’ve been working with Brubaker Cabinetry for the past five years because we love their product – solid wood rather than laminates or chipboard. They look beautiful and function well for the price.

Dream Renovation Fixes Master Bath Challenges

Diane Burcz Interiors | Newton Master Bedroom + Bath entrance

Old bathrooms, especially master baths, present some of the most challenging space puzzles. Think of fixture placement, storage and counter expanse, and circulation in and out of the bathroom. Sometimes the solution for designing a functional bathroom is to take space from an adjoining closet or bedroom. Often it means taking away a doorway or moving fixtures to a better location to create a dream bath for a client.

Here is how we repurposed the space within the same footprint in a Newton bathroom, just by creating a new layout.

Custom Ottoman

Custom Ottoman by Diane Burcz

This custom ottoman was designed for a client with a contemporary aesthetic. The fabric is from Robert Allen and the weave of the fabric gives the neutral colors of gray and white dimension. The mushroom shape adds additional interest to a modern master bedroom seating area. We paired the ottoman with a Knoll womb settee. Another feature of the bedroom was a neutral Moroccan-style area rug. Finally, we added beautiful wooden lamps.

Design Solutions with Custom Furnishings

Custom means that the size and fabric are just right for the client. The matching Knoll settee ottoman wasn’t a good fit for the space. The ottoman I designed solved a design dilemma by its versatility – it can be used as footrest with the settee but also as seating for a built-in desk. The room had a king-size bed so the mushroom shape seemed more conducive to circulating in the space. The ottoman was fabricated by Partners In Design, one of my favorite trade partners.
