About + Process
Nice to Meet You.
I started my design education in Interior Architecture & Design at the University of California Berkeley Extension, and earned a certificate in Kitchen & Bath Design from the Boston Architectural College after moving to the Boston area. In 2013, I launched Diane Burcz Interior Design and have been fortunate to work on projects in Boston, its surrounding suburbs, and Cape Cod.
In my own spaces I embrace elements like wood and concrete, textural fabrics such as linen and wool, and appreciate the craftsmanship of artisans, and the creativity of artists. I am drawn to midcentury modern and Scandinavian styles with their emphasis on clean, simple lines and natural materials, functionality but also their warmth and elegance.
I met my husband, Doug, at business school at Carnegie Mellon University and we moved several times for our post-MBA careers. Updating the older homes we purchased - me as designer and Doug as DIY carpenter and painter - ignited a shared interest in design and renovation. In 2015, Doug and I bought a fixer-upper in Provincetown that we could enjoy with our two kids before we lost Doug to cancer in 2017. My adult kids and I consider it our home base - where we enjoy spending time together with our beloved dog, Dory.
When I’m not collaborating with clients and industry partners, I’m usually in my kitchen baking or now planning updates to my condominium in Jamaica Plain - my latest design laboratory.
While my business has grown, I’ve been an active member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) and the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA).
Diane Burcz Interior Design Process
With a solid understanding of space planning and interior architecture, my design sensibility emphasizes clean lines, natural elements, texture and, just as important – commanding functionality.
Throughout the design process, I interpret my client’s personal taste and vision by proposing thoughtful combinations of elements and furnishings that work well together. My practice specializes in kitchens and baths, interior architecture, and expertly utilizes furniture and textiles in projects. I especially like creating site-specific furniture pieces and innovative solutions that improve the livability of my client’s home.
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:
STEP 1
Let’s talk! Our first contact is a phone conversation where we both ask questions and learn about one another and your project.
STEP 2
Meet & Greet. At our initial consultation, I will ask more questions and get an idea of the scope of your project. This will either be in person or virtual.
STEP 3
Design Proposal & Budget Discussion; Contract & Deposit. Measurements and photographs of the existing space taken.
STEP 4
Design Development & Schematics; Identification of one of DBID’s preferred contractors for input and construction bid. This is the final step of the design process where we fine tune the design and finalize materials, fixtures and finishes.
STEP 5
Construction documents organized and shared with contractor and subcontractors. Design phase concludes.
STEP 6
Onsite management by DBID to ensure integrity of design throughout the building process.
STEP 7
Completion of your project. Punch list. Professional photography shoot. Occupancy permit.
READY TO ENJOY YOUR NEWLY RENOVATED HOME.
